Emily Ambrose, Bassoon

Emily Ambrose

Emily recently graduated with a First Class BMus (Hons) from the Royal College of Music, where she studied with Joost Bosdijk, Andrea de Flammineis and Emily Hultmark as a Leverhulme and RCM scholar. Prior to this she learned with Joanna Baillie Stark at the Royal Academy of Music Junior Department. From October, Emily will combine further study at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Dusseldorf with freelance playing and teaching in the UK.

An active freelance bassoonist, Emily performs regularly in London and beyond, and has worked with ensembles including the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Ulster Orchestra, Sinfonia Cymru and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, where she was a fellowship musician in 2024/25.

Emily's musical interests span orchestral, solo and chamber music. She has taken part in summer courses including the Encuentro de Música y Academia de Santander, Edinburgh International Festival Rising Stars, European Masterclasses and Orchestra (KMH Stockholm) and Hellensmusic. Concerto performances include Hummel and Rossini and Emily particularly enjoys discovering and performing new works for bassoon.

Emily is very grateful for support provided over the years by the Cherubim Trust, RPS, Finzi Trust, Leverhulme Trust, Drake Calleja Trust, Hattori Foundation and the Denne Gilkes Trust.
